Position Description:
As a member of the business unit (BU) central Reliability Engineering Team, help ensure that all BU plants satisfy contractual and legal requirements by implementing best practice operating and maintenance strategies that result in required reliability performance of plant machinery and related systems at optimal cost. He/she challenges the status quo and maintains a working environment of continuous improvement across field operations and BU mechanical staff.
• Establish a culture of safety in working with field operations and service providers in the execution of all aspects of the role requirements.
• Participate in outage, major maintenance and capital spares planning by providing leadership in deciding scopes based on up to date condition information and history for specified plant machinery and systems.
• Work with Field Operations to identify regional vendor support needs, and to ensure that all maintenance and supply agreements are properly managed to ensure maximum benefit to the BU. Assess technical competency of contractors and service providers to ensure proper scope is assigned and expected quality is received.
• Use the Linde computerized maintenance management system to manage maintenance activities and to analyze equipment reliability data in order to determine gaps, set appropriate KPI’s, and to drive improvement in the areas of greatest impact.
• Implement and support training initiatives and develop/deliver local training materials as determined necessary by BU and or BU regional personnel.
• Represent the regions reliability interests as BU owner’s machinery engineer in the proposal and commercialization process, including scope/spares decisions, installation, commissioning and new plant acceptance. Participate on select due diligence exercises, and provide technical support on major or complex proposals on an exception basis.
• Draft reliability and maintenance procedures; review and approve the application of local mechanical equipment/systems job plans, work instructions, and related procedures.
• Supervise the rectification of failed equipment including engineering management of change (EMOC) compliance, key decision making and determination of root cause failure, including action regarding other like equipment in the BU as indicated. Provide mechanical design contacts as needed for failure analysis and any needed mechanical design analysis or redesign. Participate in failure analysis reporting.
• Ensure through condition review that the state of key mechanical equipment and systems at individual sites is known. Ensure that any gaps found are appropriately addressed, needed inspections scheduled, and that equipment is operated within agreed limits.
• Participate in expert user panels and maintain a network of industry best practice and service providers. Stay abreast of latest equipment design, monitoring, and service trends to determine opportunities verse the existing machinery portfolio. Provide business case justification and engineering solutions for such changes. Translate network knowledge into local application.


Position Requirements:
• Mechanical engineering degree required. Professional qualifications and licensing preferred.
• Minimum 15 years experience (at least five years in an operation environment) with specific engineering expertise in rotating equipment (pumps, turbines, and compressors) and general mechanical equipment such as refrigeration systems, steam systems, heat exchangers, and adsorption systems/dryers.
• Solid foundation in machinery condition based maintenance techniques
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, leadership and influencing skills.

Reliability Leader Responsibilities:
• Identify equipment reliability issues.
• Pareto analysis of reasons for lost availability.
• Report asset availability information to production area and plant management and Operations Excellence Organization.
• Establish priority of reliability efforts.
• Identify needs for Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
• Track and participate in RCFA, assure quality of RCFA.
• Liaison to reliability engineer on critical equipment analyses and strategies.
• Initiate Screening DMFs (Decision Making Framework) for reliability issues to be included in the Unit Technology Plan.
• Prepare DMFs (Decision Making Framework) for operations availability issues.
• Coordinate monthly cost meeting for the area leadership team regarding YTD cost status via monthly cost meetings to insure area meets Profit Objective and identify any cost saving opportunities or strategies for the businesses.
• Input improvement ideas in system.
• Track and participate in the troubleshooting efforts for equipment-related problems in the area.
• Work with the Optimizer and Gatekeeper to prioritize the maintenance work with task plans.
• Review daily logs & historical trends for equipment problems.  Submit to the appropriate work process to address problems identified.

Minimum Skills Required:
- B.S. Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
- 5+ years plant or related experience, preferably in a petrochemicals operation
- Rotating equipment experience a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office software (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. 
- Ability to work effectively with all personnel regardless of function/level.
- Strong organization and planning skills.
- Results oriented.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• Must be able to enter and move about in confined spaces and wear personnel protective equipment
• Must be able to climb stairs in operating unit
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and weather conditions for various periods of time
