Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is part of the team devoted to providing reliability engineering services to Westar Energy’s owner operated power plants. The engineer will originate and develop analysismethods for determining reliability of equipment and processes at all of the company’s energy centers. The candidate acquires data, performs analysis, and prepares reports that documentproblems with equipment and processes. The candidate assists in the implementation of new and revised maintenance practices at all the company’s energy centers. The engineer will actively participate in the Generation Steering Committees.
The engineer in this position will:
• Work under supervision of the Senior Engineer - Reliability. • Facilitate the implementation of RCM methods at all energy centers.
• Perform reliability studies to analyze and identify specific areas or equipment needing improvement.
• Actively participate in the maintenance best practices team. • Develop an asset bad actor list. • Develop and implement changes to equipment maintenance plans based on reliability principles and best practices.
• Advise, provide training and implement changes in computerized work management system methods and practices.
• Provide technical consultation services in the areas of reliability, work and materials management, and business administration.
• Perform studies on equipment and process failures and present details of the analysis, in report format, to plant management.
• Follow company safety and health guidelines and other company policies.
• Perform other work as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET* accredited program.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand plant technical documents including operations and maintenance manuals, technical drawings, schematics, logic diagrams and safety materials.
• Proficient use, and understanding of, computer applications and data systems including computerized maintenance management systems.
• Experience in, and knowledge of, plant operations, maintenance, and business activities and practices. • Working knowledge of plant and equipment performance measures.

The position requires a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 1 year engineering experience in a chemical manufacturing plant.
