IRISS Passes 50kA Arc Resistance Test!

All three major manufacturers of infrared windows have passed “Arc Resistance Tests.” But what does it really mean when NFPA warns that even steel doors do not provide enough protection against the effects of a blast?

Arc Resistance Tests certify electrical systems that are proven to contain, redirect and dissipate the superheated gasses of an arc blast. When an infrared window “passes” an arc test as part of a resistant system, it is proven not to fail before the safety mechanisms of the system redirect the blast. Although this is significant it cannot be interpreted as having any generic resistance characteristics for non-resistant applications.
