RCM-2007 Workshop
The Reliability Centered Maintenance Manager’s Forum
April 3-6, 2007
Sheraton Waikiki Honolulu Hawaii
Workshop 2B
Using the Classical RCM Method by Mac Smith, Author RCM, A Gateway to World Class Maintenance
This Classical Reliability-Centered Maintenance provides valuable insights into current preventive maintenance practices and issues, while explaining how a transition from the current “preserve equipment” to “preserve function” mindset is the key ingredient in a maintenance optimization strategy. This workshop defines the four principal features of Classical RCM and describes the nine essential steps to achieving a successful RCM program.
There is an easy to follow example illustrating the Classical RCM systems analysis process using a water treatment system. Additionally time will be spent discussing an economic model that has been used successfully to decide the most cost effective use of maintenance.
Top Level managers, engineers, and especially technicians who rely on PM programs in their plant operations can’t afford to miss this workshop.
Seating is limited so register early. Early bird conference and hotel discounts end Feb 15.

Schedule Hierarchy
Greetings,
I am using a CMMS that supports work schedules. I wish to set it up so that the planner can start using them. I have done some research on schedule hierarchies but I am curious on what the maintenance and reliability community uses.
5 year/ 1 year/ 6 month/ 1 month/ 1 week (7 days)?
Is the above typical? Useful? Are there better or more flexible schedules? We have a 12 hour and 10 hour shift.
Should I create a schedule for both or just use the 12 hour?
Anyway, as you can see I am undecided. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Glen F

Root Cause Analysis Learning Event
RELIABILITY Magazine is hosting the Root Cause Learning Event on February 21-22 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Omni Charlotte Hotel.
The Root Cause Analysis Interactive Learning Event is a unique learning experience. It is designed for:
• maintenance and reliability professionals NEW to Root cause Analysis OR
• maintenance and reliability professionals with significant experience who desire to improve their Root Cause Analysis process OR
• maintenance and reliability professionals whose organizations are experiencing chronic, yet not catastrophic, failures that lead to reduced production efficiency and higher costs AND for
• those who are struggling on their own to implement a small Root Cause Analysis project OR
• for those attempting to spread Root Cause Analysis throughout their organizations.

Benchmarking Your Resources
– Is Your Facility Using the Same Tactics and Strategies as Others
How is your facility doing when it comes to getting resources for maintenance and reliability?
What maintenance and reliability strategies and tactics are being utilized at your manufacturing facility as compared to other facilities in your industry or compared to industry as a whole?
By participating in RELIABILITY®Magazine’s “Keeping Up with the Jones’” survey, you’ll find out the answers to these questions, and a few more, that are vital to knowing how you stand among facilities and manufacturing plants worldwide.
Those participating will receive a report that includes in-depth analysis of the data plus comments from several leading maintenance experts. But you have to participate to get this valuable data.
There are only 15 questions to complete and we estimate you can complete the survey in less than 10 minutes.
The survey does not require any proprietary information and no attempts are made to specifically identify your facility.
You are welcome to answer either for your particular plant or facility or corporately.
The analysis report will be emailed to you in a few weeks once the survey ends.
Thanks for participating!

Mikron Infrared M7800 Camera is Now Available with DualVision!
Mikron’s economical, easy-to-use, high-performance infrared PPM camera, with laser pointer and digital visual recording is now available with visual and thermal image functionality.
What is DualVision? DualVision is the ability to display a thermal-over-visual image, on the M7800’s sizable 3.5” LCD. The percentage of the overlaid thermal image can be adjusted from 0-100%, allowing the operator to pin-point problems faster! Both types of images can be downloaded via USB 2.0.
The M7800 still features a 320x240 resolution, displayed on its sizeable 3.5” articulating LCD. Three optional lenses are compatible with the M7800, including the revolutionary Mikron SpyGlass™ Lens.

From TPM to RCM
We have just achieved our Level 2 TPM award as a factory (through JIPM).
I am part of the Pillar 3 (preventative maintenance) team.
Our assessors are encouraging us to move forward with our RCM as part of our Level 3 strategy. As yet we have done one machine in a department as an initial FMEA project. It was very interesting but we are certainly needing to learn more on the methodology before we go any further.
How do you see RCM and TPM fitting together - do they?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Mike

Benefits of the Planned Domain
By Winston P. Ledet
The Manufacturing Game
We have spent considerable time in the Manufacturing Game newsletter focusing on the benefits and execution of the precision domain – removing the defects at the source (Figure 1). Our philosophy has evolved based on working with clients and modeling reliability; most organizations would be advised to focus first on eliminating defects and then on making the defect removal process more efficient with a planning and scheduling process. However, there are significant benefits to the Planned Domain and this article focuses on the specific benefits that are generated through the Planned domain and the keys to a successful transition to the planned domain. Using our Dynamic Benchmarking model and data from a hypothetical chemical plant we modeled at DuPont we were able to calculate the benefits. More…

SAP PM Best Practices
We are preparing an SAP Plant Maintenance Best Practices Benchmarking report and we need your help.
Will you please take 5 minutes and tell us more about how you use SAP Plant Maintenance?
There is very little independent research in this area so your input is vital.
You can participate anonymously or if you would like an advanced copy of Reliabilityweb.com’s SAP PM Best Practices Summary Report you can add your contact details. No confidential information is requested.
The survey report will also be presented at EAM-2007 - The Enterprise Asset Management Summit, April 3-6, 2007 in Honolulu Hawaii.
