Sensors Working Overtime

Wireless tracking devices are radically transforming how businesses monitor vital equipment.
by John Edwards, CFO Magazine

Is that warehouse about to collapse? Is that turbine about to throw a blade? Is that oil well going to explode?

All good questions, particularly if you happen to be standing nearby. Advice for lubricant recovery and equipment start-up

In the wake of hurricane Katrina and Rita, Chevron sent out a number of communications to its employees in the affected areas. One of these communications was a technical document that field personnel could use with customers who had vehicles (commercial or personal) exposed to water. Another is a letter to customers, marketers and field sales that addresses general safety issues, lubricant recovery and equipment start-up.

These documents can serve as a guide to anyone how must deal with equipment that has suffered from water intrusion.

We would like to thank Chevron for sharing this information with our readers in such a timely fashion.

Change Management for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals

Distance Learning Course written and supported by Steve Thomas

MasteringMaintenance.com offers unique distance learning courses for maintenance and reliability professionals that include:

• 10 Lessons with graphics slides narrated by course leaders
• Printed Text Books and Workbooks with assignments
• Instructor support through email
• Additional instructor and student support through online forums

Of all types of change, reliability focused efforts are perhaps the most difficult to initiate and conduct. These initiatives often meet significant resistance because there are always those who did well working in a reactive maintenance environment. Lukewarm support is often the most that can be expected from those changing to the new reliability based approach. How a manager manages the change will be the difference between success and failure.

This self guided course teaches the basic skills required to break down the barriers encountered by reliability focused change efforts.
