Preventive maintenance of power installation urged

From Bangladesh News

Speakers at a seminar on ‘preventing maintenance of electrical installations in power sector’ said the present loadshedding was not the failure of local engineers rather it was the total failure of decision makers.

“For the simply lack of detecting instrument in Ghorashal 2 unit of power station ‘inventor panel’ was burned and the entire power unit was closed for which almost 420 MW power have fallen defecit,” alleged Syed Moazzam Hossain, Managing Director of SMH Engineering Limited at a seminar in his key-note paper held at the DCCI Auditorium on Thursday.

Megger Ltd, UK and SMH Engineering Ltd, Dhaka jointly organised the seminar where Engr BD Rahmatullah, Director General, Power Cell was the chief guest and Engr. Brig. General Mofizur Rahman, Managing Director, West Zone, Power Distribution Company Limited was the guest of honour.

SM Hossain stressed on the importance of preventive maintenance in different power installations. He alleged that the local power units almost ignored preventive maintenance.

“Without the proper instruments the local engineers are unable to maintain the electrical installations. In every country, there is a central test laboratory, but in Bangladesh the necessity for setting up of such laboratory did not get any importance, he said.

He said in Bangladesh, whenever, the authority buys anything they do not know whether the prescribed items have the same capacity or fulfil the requirement.

Engr BD Rahmatullah said preventive and regular schedule maintenance should be done to save the equipment and increase the revenue.

He said the government was planning to set up an independent test laboratory immediately for which the process was going on. In the second session, a presentation on important test and measuring instrument was held.
