Live From PdM-2005 - Monday

On Monday, I went to Jack Nicholas Jr.’s workshop entitled ‘A Predictive Technology & Maintenance Management Overview.’ This was an excellent overview that helped outline what a high quality predictive maintenance program should look like.  Jack covered the goals and philosophy of a PdM program, including what a PdM program should strive to accomplish.  He went on to explain several PdM technologies, and what organizations should expect to spend on each type of PdM technology, categorizing them from an entry level program to an intermediate level program to a high level program.

This was a workshop packed with extremely useful, practical information.  Look for a book to be coming out sometime in early 2006 with all the material covered in the workshop, plenty of real life case studies plus a section on auditing a PdM program.  You can find a large portion of this material (minus the audit section) at this website.  Maintenance Quality Systems I certainly don’t get any sort of commission from this. I just think this is fabulous material for anyone interested in starting a PdM program or anyone who is interested in increasing the quality of their PdM program.  It is interesting that although 75%-80% of organizations incorporate some type of PdM technology, estimates are that only about 10% of organizations have high quality PdM programs.
This information could help your organization move to a healthier PdM program.
