EuroMaintenance Report

EuroMaintenance Report
By Terrence O’Hanlon, CMRP

I am pleased to report that I have arrived in Basel Switzerland on Monday to attend the opening of the 18th EuroMaintenance Conference and the 3rd World Congress of Maintenance.

I would have checked in sooner however the hotel I am in has limited broadband connections and last night – everyone else in the Hotel were squeezing the connection for all it was worth.

This event features attendees from over 50 countries and offers a wide perspective on maintenance programs from around the world.  This morning’s session opened with a Joe Ricciarelli from SKF (Sweden) who is based in the United Kingdom and was originally from Brasil.

He covered a lot off ground in his “Beyond Borders – World Economy” presentation.  Some highlights for me included a strong message that companies that have good or best practices are valid regardless of the geographical location and that we should view maintenance as investment – NOT COST!

We invited Mr. Ricciarelli to expand his vision for the future in a future issue of Uptime Magazine so stay tuned.

There are dozens of other presentations this morning so I have to run now but just wanted to check in.  SMRP is hosting a small reception tonight for other National Maintenance Societies to establish better ties and cross communication.

I do have an Internet connection although it is of varied use from time to time and I hope I can talk the organziers into letting me post a few papers from this event to give you a better understanding of the quality of this event.

I hope to check in again soon.
