January 26, 2007   What is an Arc Flash?

Think of an arc flash as a short circuit through the air. In an arc flash incident, an enormous amount of concentrated radiant energy explodes out wards from the electrical equipment (see video on our web site), creating pressure waves that can damage a persons hearing, a high-intensity flash that can damage their eyesight and a superheated ball of gas that can severely burn a workers body and melt metal. The pressure waves can also send loose material like pieces of damaged equipment, tools and other objects flying through the air.

Arc flash is a serious hazard that can be devastating to those exposed to it.

January 26, 2007   Intrinsically Safe accelerometers from Wilcoxon Research

Wilcoxon Research has received Intrinsic Safety certification for two of its most popular low cost accelerometers: the 786 and 787.

Obtaining the Intrinsic Safety (IS) certification means that Wilcoxon’s 786 IS Series and 787 IS Series units can be used where flammable or explosive materials are present without causing electrical sparks or “hot spots” strong enough to cause ignition of gases or dusts in the air.

The 786 IS Series includes an integral cable model (the 786F) and the first dual output accelerometer with temperature sensor to receive IS certification (the 786T). The 787 IS Series are side exit, low profile units.

Wilcoxon 786 IS series and 787 IS series are certified as Intrinsically Safe for:
Class I, Division 1 rated for Groups A, B, C, D
Class II, Division 1 rated for Groups E, F, G
Class III, Division 1
Class I, Zone 0, Ex ia IIC T4 (zone approval for Canada)
Class I, Zone 0, Aex ia IIC T4 (zone approval for US).

January 26, 2007   Safe Clean Pouring - New Disposable Funnel

Trico’s Industrial Fast Funnels are the simple, convenient and clean way to pour. Intended for one-time use, each funnel remains clean and compact until separated from the header and opened. Made of coated, heavy grade paper stock, they can be used with most lubricants and liquids and are designed to fit a wide variety of orifices as small as ¾” in diameter. Since a new funnel is always ready for use, particle contamination and fluid cross-contamination is virtually eliminated.
