Distance Learning: The Basics of AC Induction Motor Maintenance
Level 1 covers the basics of AC industrial induction motors, theory and application. This self guided course is led by Dr. Howard Penrose, Ph.D., a leading international expert in the field of electrical motors and systems.
In the first section, the student will learn basic electro-mechanical theory, motor and transformer theory, insulation, motor connections (NEMA and IEC) as well as distribution and control basics. The second section covers application considerations for AC induction motors including selection and application. Application, energy efficiency, installation considerations and the basics of belted and direct drive alignment and tensioning will be covered. In the third section of Level 1, general maintenance and troubleshooting will be covered. Greasing, general maintenance and an introduction to the application of motor circuit analysis, electrical signature analysis, ultrasonics, vibration, infrared, multi-meter and insulation resistance testing is included.
Who Should Buy This Course
• Maintenance and Reliability Professionals involved in Condition Based Monitoring of induction motors who would like a more in-depth understanding of the operational theories and practical considerations involved in overseeing these industrial workhorses.
• Mechanically inclined personnel will also benefit greatly from Dr. Penrose’s down-to-earth, simple explanations of electro-mechanical theory, motor operation and CBM testing and interpretation.
• Managers who need a better understanding of electrical systems, CBM monitoring techniques and the challenges that are contained therein.

K160 Thermal Imager Combines Performance and Affordability
ISG Thermal Systems USA, Inc. has raised the bar in toolbox radiometry. The introduction of the K160 thermal imager combines performance and affordability in an ergonomically designed package weighing less than 1.5 lbs. ISG offers the K160 Pro and K160 L, both fully radiometric and specifically engineered to meet both your preventive maintenance needs, as well as your budget. Featuring the industry’s only flip-up 2.5” TFT LCD, the K160 allows the user to hold the camera in all positions from high to low and still comfortably view the image. “The K160 offers the people who are looking for lower resolution to get a product that really works,” said Brad Kays, Business Development Manager. “The display allows them to see what they’re looking at even if it is up high or over your head. Most other products are too cumbersome to allow that.”
“When we entered the market, we wanted a full line of cameras in fewer than three years,” said Kays. “We now have three full-resolution models and one low-resolution model in the market.”
The Professional Series of industrial, high-resolution, PPM cameras has proven that innovative design and functionality still exist in this very competitive market. From the fully-featured K6900 to the budget-friendly K6700, the Spectra Scan line of cameras is popular throughout industries with radiometric inspection needs.
Thermal Systems is uniquely positioned to meet the global market for thermal imaging technology. For more information, contact ISG at 877-733-3473 or…

Benchmate: The Simpler CMMS
Benchmate is a simpler CMMS for small to medium size organizations. Technicians find Benchmate easy to learn and use. You will not spend a fortune on training your CMMS specialist only to lose it when he leaves.
We offer reasonably priced configurations serving single users, multi-user networks, and multiple locations. Internet access is provided using Windows 2000/2003 Terminal Servers or Citrix Servers.
One of the major problems in using a comprehensive maintenance software package is learning where the information you need is located.
Benchmate uses just 7 major screens - each corresponding to a portion of your work practice. Data entered in one screen is automatically available to other related screens.
The screens are:
• Equipment - Identifies and describes each equipment, its spare parts and maintenance history.
• Service Log - Records maintenance activity for each equipment. Shows failure code (for root cause analysis), down time, who worked, parts used and comments.
• Preventive Maintenance - Describes and schedules periodic maintenance jobs. Includes tasks and parts needed.
• Work Order - Describes and schedules planned (non-PM) maintenance activity. Contains tasks and parts needed.
• Trouble Call - Tracks and schedules user requests for maintenance.
• Spare Parts - Describes each spare part, the equipment it is used on and, with the Advanced Inventory and Purchasing Module, the vendors and their part number.
• Vendors - Lists vendors and other contacts

Fluke Ti30™: Using Thermography to Make your PdM Program Pay Dividends
Part 2 of 4: Analyzing your PdM Program Investment
Once a company has decided to build a PdM (predictive maintenance) program including thermography, or add thermography to an existing PdM program, it will likely next evaluate the investment cost. There are several elements to consider, both upfront and ongoing:
• Initial cost of hardware
• Initial cost of any accessories
• Initial cost of software, including any per user license fees
• Training costs, including both course fees and labor costs for training
• Average service and calibration costs
• Labor costs to perform periodic inspections of critical equipment.
Even though the return on investment (ROI) for a well-managed thermography inspection program is typically quite large, it is still important for a company to carefully evaluate their inspection needs and most critical applications before choosing a thermography solution. Choosing the wrong camera and/or software will either result in an unnecessarily large investment up front or lower ROI in the future.
The Fluke Ti30 Thermal Imager is designed to deliver maximum return on that investment. One upfront cost ($9,995 in US) includes the imager, all needed accessories, unlimited-license analysis and reporting software, and a seat at a professional two-day training class taught by Snell Infrared*. Fluke also offers affordably priced service and calibration.
*training package varies by country
