Florida’s Charlotte County Selects Datastream 7i to Streamline Operations, Reduce Costs and Improve Responsiveness
Datastream Continues Momentum in Municipal Sector; Broad Functionality, GIS Integration and Mobile Capabilities Make Datastream 7i the Ideal Solution for Charlotte County
GREENVILLE, S.C., March 30—Datastream Systems, Inc. today announced that Charlotte County, Fla., has selected the Datastream 7i(TM) Asset Performance Management solution to improve operations, reduce costs and increase responsiveness to citizen needs. Charlotte County will initially deploy Datastream 7i in its utilities, information technology and environment extension services departments, and plans to extend the deployment across all functional organizations in the county.
With more than 160,000 residents, Charlotte County will use Datastream 7i to improve the performance of its assets, control inventory, handle budget planning and monitoring, automate work order processing and organize construction functions. By standardizing on Datastream 7i, Charlotte County will consolidate all of its asset data in a single database, which will improve the consistency and effectiveness of operations while also simplifying compliance with federal asset reporting requirements.
“Datastream 7i provides us with a comprehensive Asset Performance Management application that enables us to manage key business processes across multiple departments far more efficiently,” said Linda Yarchenko, director of information technology for Charlotte County. “From maintenance updates to historical service requests to inventory status levels, Datastream 7i provides our employees with the information they need to do their jobs with maximum efficiency.”
Yarchenko added that the pending acquisition of Datastream by Infor Global Solutions bodes well for future innovations that will benefit Charlotte County. “We are confident the pending Datastream acquisition by Infor will enable continued enhancements in Datastream 7i that meet our growing needs,” she said.
Functionality Wins the Day
Datastream 7i emerged as Charlotte County’s solution of choice due primarily to its broad functionality, native integration of geographic information systems (GIS) applications, product reliability and mobile functionality, which enables employees to access, capture and manage information directly from the job site through wireless devices. This enables field personnel to download work orders directly from the Datastream 7i database, assign orders to the appropriate individuals, create personalized “to do” lists and update the status of service requests.
Mobile functionality is enabled by the Datastream 7i support for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web services, which extends application functionality to any variety of platforms and interfaces, including mobile devices.
Datastream 7i SOA support also makes it easy to integrate the solution with other systems to improve overall organizational effectiveness. Charlotte County is integrating Datastream 7i with its financial management systems in order to facilitate budgeting and cost-reporting down to the individual asset level. This functionality is critical because Charlotte County operates under a multi-organizational funding structure and it must provide financial projections based on individual asset usage.
“Over 2,700 public sector organizations have purchased Datastream solutions to improve service to citizens, reduce costs and optimize asset performance,” said Datastream CEO Larry Blackwell. “The public sector continues to be a focus area for Datastream and we will continue to deliver the critical technology capabilities that this unique market segment needs to be successful, including GIS, linear asset management and Web-services-based mobile support.”
